29th June 2019: Armed Forces Day - The High Sheriff was back again a few days later for the Army exhibition and taking the salute at the Parade, Lt Col Cummings' last in command before moving on to another position in the Army. Hi all – what a glorious day for the Parade and what a fun occasion it was - if you didn’t have to march in full ceremonial kit or man-handle an extremely heavy anvil until everyone agreed that it was in the right place! I’ve done my usual job of preparing a selection of photos from before, during, and after the parade including the high-jinks of two ladies in high office who were obviously in high spirits and rising to the occasion.
I was able to talk with Commanding Officer, Lt Col Cummings after the parade. I understand that this was his last such occasion here as he will have moved on in the usual Army manner by the time next year’s event comes round. I’m sure we all wish him well in whatever new command he takes up eventually – he says that he has cherished the special relationship 6REME has with the Town, which he has fostered during his time in charge. He did ask me to convey to anyone publishing material about the day that they should refer to his battalion as 6 Armoured Close Support Battalion REME, which covers all the different units who were involved in the day – apart from the marching band from the Royal Army Medical Corps.
I used two cameras – hopefully it isn’t too difficult to work out how they fit. Sorry I forgot to synchronise the clocks – Nikons are great cameras but their time-keeping is not one of their strengths!
