8th February 2014: 6 REME Parade - The Homecoming Parade of 6REME from Tidworth. The weather didn’t ruin the event, although we had to take cover from the occasional heavy showers and hail storm. The army arrived early to set up their displays and prepare the High St and Parade Ground (aka the Library car park). Julian gave cries on the hour in the run up to the parade while members of the public met the troops, heard about their time in Afghanistan, and shared some stories about the town which 6REME have recently adopted. The parade assembled at the War Memorial Gardens by the football ground, marched to closed roads down Priory Rd and the High St, gave a rather theatrical ‘eyes left’ salute to the General and other dignitaries outside the Town Hall, before ending up at the parade ground for 20 minutes of pomp and ceremony, during which the JOG school made a presentation to the Regiment. Proceedings rounded off in the Town Hall with a reception for the officers and men of the Regiment, many accompanied by family members. The commanding officer presented the Town with a ceremonial anvil to mark the occasion – the anvil is the emblem of the Close Support battalion of 6REME and was made in Afghanistan from material used to repair armoured vehicles!
