The scan in the Photo Gallery shows the accounts for the Hungerford Lying-in Charity dated 1870, which had been established in the 18th century. The document states:
"The object of the Charity is to assist poor women by a Loan of Linen, and a Gift of tea, sugar, &c, in value 2s 6d, with one shilling to the mother at the end of a month, when the Linen is to be returned.
During the past year 35 poor women have been relieved."
